In 2001 Shane tried out for the Central Illinois Cougars
semi-pro football team. He won a roster spot as a third string Strong Safety and his duties only consisted of special teams play.
That year Shane set a league record with 27 special teams
tackles!
In 2002 Shane came back bigger and stronger. At 185, he
won the second string strong safety spot. The starter
suffered a neck injury two weeks before the season opener
and Shane was thrust into the spot light.
After a long and decorated career, Shane is announcing his retirement from football. During
his 8 year tenure he has earned the following awards and
achievements;
- 2001 MFL record for most special teams tackles in a season
- 2001 Team record for the most special teams tackles in a
season.
- 2002 Special Teams Player of the Year.
- 2003 Most Improved Player
- 2004 Most Hit of the Year
- 2005 Defensive Player of the Year
- 2005 Most dedicated
- 2006 Come back player of the year
- Led his team in tackles in 2006
- Led his team in tackles in 2007
- Holds Team tackle records
- Holds MFL career tackle record
- Holds MFL record for tackles in a game
- Holds Team record for most tackles in a game
Shane suffered a knee injury in off season work outs in
2005 that led to his early retirement. Shane came back from
the injury, leading his team in tackles two years in a row,
but the four screws and two knee anchor plates
prevented him from playing at the dominate level he was
accustomed
